Why is delivery of our new Nissan Qashqai being delayed by five months?

In April we ordered a Nissan Qashqai 2.0 140PS petrol Tekna Sport with 17-inch wheels and a CVT box here in Tenerife, and were quoted delivery in November 2010. Now we are advised by the dealer that it will be ready on 28 March 2011. They are told by Nissan that this is due to a model change. Do you think someone is telling porkies, or is Nissan having trouble with this model? Should we cancel the order on broken contract, and if so, what would you recommend in its place?

Nissan is having trouble making enough of them to satisfy the huge demand throughout Europe. Replacing the Primera with the Qashqai turns out to have been a brilliant marketing decision and the Qashqai is now one of Britain's major exports. The model was revised, but that was a year ago. Price range alternatives include the British-built Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4 2.0i Valvematic CVT, the Mitsubishi ASX, the Hyundai ix35 and the KIA Sportage.
