Gear stick pops up on my Golf
I have a 2001 Volkswagen Gol and the gearstick keeps popping up. It's spring loaded, so you have to push down to get it into reverse but when you take it out of reverse it pops up really high and you have to push it back down before you can put it into 1st.
It sometimes pops up randomly when pulling away so wont go into 2nd and grinds,and today it popped up and when I went to put it into 1st it kept going into reverse.
I tried gluing it down but that lasted all of two days. Would a new gear stick work?

The gearshift head mechanism needs rebuilding or replacing. No quick fix.
