Honda soft top roof has a split

I own a 2004 Honda S2000 which I have had for 6 years. Last summer a split about 2 cms long appeared in the hood to the rear & above the offside side window. I found a soft top specialist who was able to pin-point its position without even seeing the car as he was aware of other S2000's damaged in the same way as a result of rough metal on that part of the roof framework. The patch has now fallen off & the split has got much bigger. Is it worth me contacting Honda for a contribution towards a new top as this design fault has effectively halved the life of the roof ?

No because the car is 7 years old.
