If a tyre pressure monitor fails, it is an MoT fail?
I've heard differing opinions but I understand if a tyre pressure monitor fails, it is an MoT fail? Is this true, if so it makes no sense? Surely the MoT is concerned with vehicle safety? A failed tyre pressure sensor is hardly a safety issue, with the millions of cars not fitted with them cannot fail the MoT.

The tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is a testable MoT item for vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2012 only. A car will fail the MoT if the warning light indicates a system malfunction and not simply low tyre pressure on one or more tyres.
Is it important? Yes, I'd argue so. A faulty TMPS system may result in the driver being unaware of a slow puncture which will increase wear and potentially impact the handling of the vehicle at higher speeds.
