Do I need to change my car when the ULEZ expands?

I live inside the ULEZ zone with an old diesel car and I need to know if I will need to pay the ULEZ zone charge on 1 October 2021. My neighbour said I will have two years to change my car to petrol from the introduction of the ULEZ zone charge on 1 October 2021. We don't have the money to splash around on new vehicles.

From 25 October 2021, ULEZ is expanding from central London to create a single, larger zone up to the North Circular Road (A406) and South Circular Road (A205). The North and South Circular Roads themselves are not in the zone. The ULEZ will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends (except Christmas day), with a £12.50 daily charge for vehicles that do not meet the required emissions standards. The ULEZ is enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. TfL says that diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015. This is the TfL page specifically about the ULEZ expansion and how to prepare for it: tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/u...n
