Should I get a petrol or diesel if I do 10,000 miles per year?

I'm looking at a year old Skoda Superb Estate. I previously would have bought diesel but DPF issues make me nervous about that. I’d buy petrol but the fuel costs will be high so should I go for hybrid? I’m thinking of either the 190bhp diesel or petrol. I do approx 10,000 miles a year but there are quite a lot of short town trips.

It doesn't sound like a diesel would suit your requirements. Can you charge a car at home (i.e. do you have a private driveway or garage with access to electricity)? If so, a plug-in hybrid sounds like a good option. It'll be able to cover journeys up to 34 miles under electric power alone but also have a 1.4-litre petrol engine for those longer trip.
