Pole axed

In August 2007 my car was hit by a Polish registered lorry at a junction. The nearside wing mirror was taken off and some damage was done to the paintwork. We stopped and exchanged details and I provided my insurers with the registration number (from the back of the lorry), details of the lorry driver, the firm he worked for with their address and details of his insurance policies. My car was then repaired for which I paid the policy excess of £250. I had legal expenses cover so patiently waited for my money to be refunded.
This never happened. It turned out that the trailers of Polish lorries carry separate registrations from the cabs. So please warn your readers that, if ever involved in an altercation with a foreign HGV, to write down the registrations of both trailer and cab.
