Bust stops
I travel widely in West Dorset and East Devon and over the last few months the authorities have spent an enormous amount of money adjusting pavements and then painting bright yellow 'Bus Stop' signs on the road surface. At a time when our roads are in an awful state thanks to the bad weather creating huge potholes isn't it a wrong use of limited resources to waste money on expensive bus stops?

Of course it is. But that's how bureaucracy works and budgets are allocated. They commit and plan to something six months ahead, then carry on regardless. Another reader witnessed new speed cushions being installed in a road infested with potholes.
