I have a seven-year-old semi-auto Mercedes A-Class petrol 190 that has suited me, but now I should replace it with something similar. I liked its performance and its high seating, which makes getting in and out easier for my stiff legs. I fancy changing to a diesel engine but the new A Class all have lower performance. Do you have any ideas on a car of similar spec to the old A190 with 0-60 in around 8 seconds.

The W169 A Class models are much better quality than the original A Class, even if there isn't a quick one. Best to take a test drive. One of the nicest engines in an MPV type vehicle is the chain-cam Nissan water-cooled turbo 1.4TCe 130 in the new Scenic. You can also get the VAG 1.4TSI 122 (probably more like 130 really) in the Golf +. Or wait for the superb Ford S-Max to get its efficient new 205PS (200bhp) SCTI engine and Powershift twin clutch transmission. Quality of that is easily as high as of any Mercedes.
