All modern diesels have DPF problems if used for short journeys but are some makes worse that others?

Yes. Best where the engine has an integrated exhaust manifold and the DPF is located immediately next to the engine. Next where the DPF is incorporated into the exhaust manifold. Worst where the DPF is located halfway along the exhaust system under the car where it does not get hot enough often enough.
