Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and have only been viewing. But i felt the need to pass on some information regarding the sat/nav problems i have been reading about. I ordered my 2.0L diesel/premium/sirius silver/ with media pack in May, and requested a delivery on new regisration day (sept 1st). I was contacted by the dealer in July and asked if I wanted delivery earlier as my car had arrived, I decided to wait until new reg came out though. I realise that I am one of the lucky ones after reading about all the other delivery issues!! Anyway, almost immediately I noticed that the sat nav voice commands seemed to be a little confusing. She could not complete instructions when approaching roundabouts, all i ever seemed to get was " bear left and then", and then nothing.............. it was getting rather annoying, so I called into the dealers to report the problem about 6 weeks ago, and never heard anything back from them. Then last week my whole media system just froze, nothing worked , no radio, no cd player, no sat nav, no reverse parking sensor, it just froze. So after booking my car in, and also telling them about the "bear left and then" issue, I was told that they had other customers with the same problem. Today my software has been updated by the dealer and so far so good, the sat nav is now telling me which exit to take at roundabouts ( yeeha ). I was told that I am the first customer at the dealer to have the upgrade done, it only takes about 15 mins by inserting a dongle into the usb port. So anyone out there with similar issues should take this information along to their local dealer and have the problem rectified.

I love driving my ix35, i traded in a honda crv for it, and although i dont have a bad word to say about hondas, this car has so much more to offer. Its very comfortable, and oozes class. I must say though that im very disappointed in the mpg....... Im predominantly a town driver, no real long journeys, not much motorway and im only getting about 34 mpg............ and thats driving very conservatively!! Ive done about 1800 miles on it, does anyone know if it gets any better??

I am glad you are happy with your car but the one thing it will never do is ooze class its just a far east people mover.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - dolsy69

do you have one yourself? have you ever driven one?

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - karl66

This andy bloke has no knowledge of Hyundai.

You obviously haven't owned many cars,Lexus maybe,Bentley,BMW,Mercedes,Rolls these have class. The year end figures here in Gerrnany showed them in 16th place not very good in fact behind Darcia and Fiat but if your happy with it so be it. I have plenty of experience with it sister company Kia and I would sooner walk than own one of those.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - davmal
The germans, of course, are famous for their high class ways. Just look at the national costume, who else would have thought of teaming up leather shorts and feathered hats?
Were Trabants german?
hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - AnotherWaiting

Andy, you still droning about about German cars I see. Every opportunity on any thread and you're there

Ok we get it, you like German cars

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Collos25

If you can read I also said Lexus,Bentley and Rolls I know tthe last two are German owned but British made and as far as Trabant are concerned they will run forever unlike the vehicle under discussion. You cannot honestly believe the likes of Hyundai have any class. My recent cars have been Saab,MG,Mercedes,Honda, and am at present running a BMW a fair mix I would say yes I like German cars I also like Uk cars but I do not like exporting jobs without good reason to far east countries.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - AlleyCat`

Again, the vehicle in question is made in europe. The parts come from all over the shop, just like they do for all cars. If you don't like the car fair enough but the rest is just utter tosh.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Collos25

But the profit goes to the far east but that is beside the point the question was does it have class as percieved by the european masses.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - AlleyCat`

The fact you can't get them for love nor money at the moment tends to suggest that hyundai have got something right (for the UK at least).

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - rogue-trooper

But the profit goes to the far east but that is beside the point the question was does it have class as percieved by the european masses.

OK, I'll rise to the bait.

I have (and still do) been driving a BMW for the past 15 years. I bought a Hyundai Santa Fe for my wife. Take the badges off, and while there might be no leather on the dashboard and the leather seats aren't as nice as say, a Range Rover, I am more than happy for what I have got and paid for. Hugely better value that an equally priced VW, Audi, BMW (and yes I have owned VWs and Audis as well).

But you strike upon the pertinent point when you mention the perception of class. It is only those worried about such minutiae (and usually lacking in class although they would hate to admit it) that worry about such things. I have met quite a few people who are thinking of or have ordered a Santa Fe. One was a hedge fund manager who could well afford something German or a Range Rover. Perhaps people, like myself, really couldn't give two hoots about the perception of class.

Ive owned Ix35 2.0 crd premium 4WD with media pack for 13 months now.My 7 previous cars have been brand new and included Land Rover,VW,Vauxhall and Ford.

No faults at all to date.

I traded in a VW Touran 2.0Tdi Sport which cost me a tidy sum when new for my current Hyundai.I did so because Im not prepared to pay over the odds for "percieved" "Quality" or "Class" any longer.Ive seen the light. The VW trashed its DM Flywheel twice,The ECU through a wobbly and it went back to dealer to have interior trim replaced that couldnt take family jib without scratching. The Illusion of "quality" has now gone.

Luckily Im not hampered by Loyalty to any brand,In fact I tend to buy a different brand each time I purchase.

The Ix35 has the same power and torque as the VW,the shape is much more modern,it is more comfortable,it has nearly every gadget known to man (check out the spec on the website) and it puts a smile on my face every time I go out in it.

I only purchased after checking out all the competition and I was astonished in comparing like for like vehicles from different manufacturers to see such disparity in list prices

As a family man I cant afford to pay £4000 more just for the emotive response of a "premium" badge. If it was £4k more reliable or residuals gave payback I surely would.

Im £4k better off for my decision,CAP have predicted residuals of 43% for the IX35 and Ive got 5 years warranty on a car I really love driving.

The Korean brand Samsung are well known as delivering the same quality as Sony for 2/3 of the price and the European and Japanese car makers are going to have a real rough time trying to convince car buyers who have more sense than money !

Yes the ability to read has given me the opportunity to read your other rather repetitive boring posts on other threads where you constantly ‘put down’ certain manufactures and always plug German cars.

Just do a search on posts by “Andy Bairsto”

I didn’t mention Trabant, perhaps it’s clear to other people.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - davmal
Mercedes have a plant in India.
BMW has a plant in India.
Honda is from the far east.
If you don't like exporting jobs to the far east, then stop supporting companies that manufacture there.
You should be safe with a SAAB, after all they are GM, a sound British company{:(
hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Collos25

It does not matter what car I drive or which cars I like the question is does the Hyundai have any class.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - daveyK_UK

nothing with hyundai cars

but they do have a big problem with their parts list price which is one of the highest around.

However, copy parts for hyundais are now becoming freely available.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - davmal

OK then define what class means, to you at least and let us all know why some cars have it.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - AnotherWaiting

Andy BMWairsto,

I see you have declared "the question is does the Hyundai have any class"

Its only you that raised that question, no one else is interested.

There's plenty of new posts you could be waving your German flag at....yawn.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Spitfire375
I own the same model and in answer to your poor mpg I have found similar issues, I am a high mileage driver and I quickly noticed a change in long distance ecconomy from an initial 38.5, the car is now giving 43.2. I have had the car for 6 weeks now with 4000+ miles on the clock and noticed this change around 3500 miles. I have had no media pack problems but have noticed that from time to time the cruise control does not kick in but apart from that can't fault the car.
I would love to know why manufacturers are allowed to sell cars claiming impossible to achieve mileage figures surely this is misrepresentation.
hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Collos25

If you care to read the original post you will read the contributor says the car oozes class,or do you not read all the posts.Like I have said nothing to do with what I drive or have owned or will own.

Yes but he didn't "question" it ...YOU did and then declared "the question is"

read it again, maybe you'll grasp it.

Nope. They do the test according to the rules. No-one claims the rules give real world mpg figures.

And the rules have been around for the past 8 or so years......

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - Steve26

Hi I have had an IX35 for the last six months (9,000 miles)

Had a couple of issues, lights come on the dash for no reason but when you re-start it seems to clear them. The dealer cant find a problem and as it only happen every couple of months I can live with it.

Had problems with the sat nav and had its software update a couple of weeks ago. HAS ANYONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TMC FUNCTION. The car initially wouldnt tune into classic FM but since the upgrade now does. I thought this would fix the problem of never recieving traffic info but it hasnt. All I get is "no information"

The car does 35mpg on short routes and if I stick to around 65 over a lonfg period I have had it up top 43mpg. I have looked at an engine chip box which aparently gives you at least an extra 10% on fuel and increases power but unfortunatley at the moment I beleive they havent developed one for the IX35.

Its a great car and although maybe not a BMW (have owned quite a few) value for money and general ride is very good and lets face it you could buy two for the price of the same spec X3 nearly.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - EazyIX35

Hi Steve

The reason for not receiving TMC is that its a paid for service in the UK (see below) and which Hyundai has not paid for in the UK. I know others are trying to see if NAVTEQ can provide this with their maps. BTW how did you obtain the software update for the satnav ?

"Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ.

Free TMC support for the navigation system exists in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. Traffic broadcasting is not supported in the following countries: Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc. For countries such as the UK and Finland where only commercial-TMC (paid service) is available, the navigation system does not have the function to receive this service.

Should you require additional information, please send us your feedback by replying to this email."

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - howmuchlonga!

Recently picked up my IX35 and the satnav now has partial postcode entry!! When it asks you for destination just enter the first part of your post code.

To store audio settings make sure you "OK" everything.

I have had no issues with satnav at all, so it looks like latest firmware OK!

Who cares about class anyway this hyunda looks like any other car. What the german national costume has to do with all this I don't know davmal. The dutch suppose to be all wearing clogs and the brits funny hats and a umbrella a lot of sniping going on here towards Andy.A few bullys in the playground anotherwaiting.

Sorry for the delay in coming back, i took the car back to the garage and they put a dongle into the USB slot and updated the radio/sat nav. This seemed to have cleared the problems reported by other user "Go straight on and then?" now ="Go straight on and then turn left in 200 yards" so this fix worked well. Its a shame about the TMC. How can they sell a media pack with this function and then no support it? Crazy!

If you here any more please let me know.

I believe there must be one for ix35 for I have to take mine back to get the heated seat fixed and the mechanic said while he has the car he will do an adjustment to increase power and fuel efficeincy

Hi Eazy...sorry but I am waiting on the part for the heated seat programme..once they have the part they will call me in and then do the adjustment...so I guess all hyundia mechanics must have the access to this adjustment. As soon as I have this done I will post on here

I have an ix35 4WD 2.0 Premium with the media pack fitted. Since I have had the vehicle the audio quality on the embedded handsfree microphone has been appalling and I have been unable to use it. Everybody I talk to says it sounds as though I am in a very bad signal area. I am keen to understand if anybody can advise if the sat nav software upgrade will cure this issue. My local dealer has a new H/F microphone on order (still waiting for this). Also does anybody know whether this upgrade will allow 4th generation IPod Touches to work with the NAVTEQ, the manual states only 1st generation. Finally I also interested in the efficency and performance tuned up.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - johnnybgoode

as a matter of interest,I intend to upgrade to a premuim 4 x 4 as we live in a rural area and it was very difficult with the snow etc, however I also decided to drive a mitsubushi asx to see what they are like..the garage I deal with has a franchise for both.

Today I test drove the ASX.....my opinion as follows

inside the car is nowhere near as nice as the hyundai

it is very bleak inside and the dials are disappointing

the rear window is awful...too small...not enough vision.

the car itself is nice enough to drive...steering only slightly better than the ix

it is too slow pulling away from roundabouts etc

you get better fuel consumption but that is about it.

now that I have driven both ...the hyundai is by far the better car and well worth the wait.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - logman

Had my ix35 2.004wd for about a month now. Love the car but the bluetooth drives me nuts. Once the car is moving no-one can hear me clearly whereas I can hear them perfectly. Also the bluetooth cuts in even though the main media switch is off which can be unexpected especially as the speaker and mic dont work unless you hurridly switch the main switch on. I've also had blank media screen, dropped calls and failure to connect problems. I'm told the iphone is not fully compatable. Incredible as its probably the worlds best selling phone atm.

The sat nav also seems to have a mind of its own, wanting to reroute me on b roads instead of obviously quicker more direct and certainly faster routes.

I could winge on but hope Hyundai will produce a complete fix soon.

Boleynboy Hi,

I am also having the problem with the handsfree, instead of it sounding like i'm loosing signal. (I have the latest update and do Not have that problem) The other person can not hear a word i'm saying if i'm going faster than 30mph. I have tried everything, making sure the windows and sunroof are shut, switching of the heating fans...etc.

My dealer does not have a solution to this. Can anyone advise me if it the same with all IX35 or just mine.

Thanks

Watwy

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - boleynboy
Watwy -Thanks for this I must admit very disappointed to hear that you're still encountering issues with your handsfree. Have you tried a different phone? I tried 3 different phones iphone, blackberry and HTC all experienced the same symptoms.

I am awaiting a new microphone replacement and a software update so hopefully this combination will resolve my issue. I'll update the forum once the work has been undertaken.

Boleynboy- How much I like the car, i must admit i have had a far few problems; the media system head unit, little rubber things missing in the door, Mic not working very well, the parking sensors being changed...etc not very impressed with a car which is less that few months old.

I have tried quite a few phones, Iphone 3GS and 4, Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung, Sony Ericsson...etc, with no luck.

That will be brilliant, then can force my dealer to replace mine if that works.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - IR

My wife is always complaining that she cannot hear me clearly when I am using the hands free on the ix35 so I guess its a problem with them all.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - boleynboy
Hi Eazy

I spoke to the Hyundai Customer services, chasing the fault on my handsfree and mentioned about the adjustment to increase power and fuel efficiency. They have indicated that the ECU update is to reduce the run on noise from the clutch when the engine is switched off. So I'm afraid I have had my hopes dashed as I'm not overly impressed with the fuel economy I am currently receiving.

Hi Boleynboy,

The Hyundai garage I use,the mechanic definitely told me the adjustment he would make would increase power and fuel economy,no mention about the clutch.

When I get it done I will let you know.

Yes, because when the design team were building the engine they thought: "let's build a thirsty, gutless engine".

What possessed you to think a reflash would change the fuel consumption?? Some people wil swallow anything.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - IR

Thanks, I was having the same problems with the sat nav and made use of your post to get my ix35 sat nav updated. They, the dealer, didn't know about the dongle for updating the software but when I told them about it they found it in the office but nobody knew what it was for. He said it was updated from version 4 to 5.

It's also a pain not being able to update the Sat Nav yourself like the Tom Tom.

Disappointed the phonebook option doesn't work. Not much point having bluetooth and not being able to access your phone via a phonebook. You can voice enter a number to dial but who remembers every no they dial. Even my wife's Nissan Note has a phonebook option.

hyundai ix35 - sat nav problems - John Clarke

I had the same troubles as yourself. I had an upgrade which seemed to resolve this. However there are still big problems with Post Codes and addresses. Half the post codes for Walsall are missing. If you want WS11, it will only accept WS11 1, 2 or 3. It will not accept WS11 4,5,6,7,8,or9. Some house number's are missing from the street's, ie my brother lives at number 393, you can only enter 391, OK it's near enough but it's not right. The blue tooth with the Media Pack is a joke. If you want to ring some one who's name begins with a W or aY the page that comes on the screen begins with A, you then have to say "Page Down, Page Down, Page Down" until you come to the name that you want. All this is while you are driving. There is a Speed Dial which works great, but you can only enter 12 names. A friend of mine also has a ix35 but without the Media Pack. He just says the name of the person he wants to call, he is asked if he wants the persons home, mobile or work. He say's which one and the number is dialed. Brilliant. I have had several other updates, but nothing has worked. Apart from this, I am very pleased with the car.
