It's not exactly technical, but then it's not a discussion either so I hope I've hit the right forum. My "new" 1997 Peugeot 306 1.9D has 175 / 70 R 13 tyres. Michelin at the front and Goodyear at the back.
The tyre pressure label on the side of the door has completely faded and I don't know what tyre pressures I need. The handbook says look at the door.
Does anybody know? My internet searches have led me down many interesting paths, but have not come up with the necessary goods.

I am sure you have looked it up correctly but I find it slightly odd that a car with a heavy diesel engine up at the front would actually have higher pressures in the rear tyres, even if only by 2 psi.

You may have a point, but the info via Dynamic Dave gives pressures for about 12 diesel models 1994 - 1999 but as you might expect not my specific one. They range from 32 / 32 through 34 / 36 to 36 / 36. So even if I'm wrong (probably) they should only be equal front and rear.

Bit strange that the heavy front end particularly as it is a Diesel has the lower pressure at the front Many many cars have more in the front than the rear under normal load conditions. Surely someone on her has your model and can read the label. Regards Peter

Had a look on my 306 XTDT
175/65/14 label says 33 front 36 rear.
Ive always been filling 32 front 30 rear! Will try recommended pressures next time.

Just looked at my 307 and it is 2.4 bar front and rear for normal use and rears up to 3 bar if carrying rear seat pass + luggage

Trying to obtained good information for tyre pressures seems to be getting more and more of a problem these day. The car manufacturing will state one thing, the tyre manufacturing something else, the door plate something else.
It seems that some car manufacturers may state recommended tyre pressures to cover any type of tyre fitted to the car irrespective of front to rear weight ratios, engine type/weight, tyre manufacturing etc. They usually tend towards slightly hard rather than soft, safety and awareness of a tyre failure being the prime consideration.
For any given car it's worth checking with both the tyre manufacture and your main dealer service department for additional advice to that already quoted in the cars manual and car door plate.

I've just bought a Haynes manual for the car. It must be about 20 years since I've looked in one - aren't the pages very thin and poor quality now.
Anyway, Haynes says for my case 2.4 bars (35psi) front and 2.4bars (35psi) rear. So that's what I'm sticking with.
A couple of 306 diesel variants do show a pound or two LESS in the front than rear !
