Hi guys,

I am the \"proud\" owner of a vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi (the actual car pictured here - www.funkymonkey.plus.com/cars

Now basically, before I actually got the car, I purchased a newer battery for my Nova (the car I had before getting the corsa as the Nova had gone kapput). The battery is identical, vauxhall, but is slighlty more powerful. Now rather than have this battery sit in my garage unused, I would like to put it in the corsa, replacing the battery which has done 10k .

And my point? Well, that is the same spiel I have had to give to every vauxhall salesperson who wanted to know \"why\" I wanted to take the battery out. No one seems to know (and Mr. Haynes has not published a manual for this mark of Corsa yet) how to take the battery out - there is a plastic sill at the bottom of the windscreen which just covers the battery compartment, and is therefore preventing the battery from being removed.

The batttery is located in the tray located behind the bulkhead and directly under the windscreen along with the wiper motor assmbley.

Are there any corsa owners, or anyone in the know, who can tell me how to get the battery out? I suspect it has something to do with this plastic sill but I cant see how to take it off. I have tried but I dont want to risk snapping it! (Plastic!)

Any help, info and advice would be much appreciated :)

If you can help with how to remove this battery, then please do so.

If all you have is a bunch of grumpy-old-men comments about how it is pointless and you wouldn\'t do it and how the young-uns of today don\'t know how lucky they are, then best you don\'t bother to reply at all.

It is supposed to be a courteous site which relies on people coming here and asking questions for its survival. Therefore it is probably better to treat people in a manner likely to encourage them to return.

My post on the Clarkson Ferrari disappeared seconds after I wrote it. There was no malice or offence intended by the comment and I would be surprised if anyone took any.

The posts by the "grumpy old men" seemed completely sensible to me and obviously also did to those that posted them and those who added supporting words.

By all means delete this but try getting out of the other side of bed tomorrow.

For your information, I took all the points raised by each and every poster in good faith. I understand that some people may think there's no point in removing the battery, (including the vauxhall dealer), so I think whoever removed all those posts over-reacted a bit. But yes, it would be great if someone could advise me on the battery removal :)

Now, it seems one of my posts explaining the position of the battery has been removed. Let's try again.
The battery is located to the right hand side of the engine bay (if you are looking at it from the front) behind the bulkhead alongside the wiper assembly. It sits beneath the plastic sill which lines the entire underneath of the windscreen. There is a bolt on one side of the sill which looks as though it is part of holding the sill in place (immidiately next to and behind the battery) but even after removal I cannot get it off.

Actually, your post was amusing, but it was in the wrong place, a fact which should have been obvious.

And y the way Ste, if you check your note you will see that I didn\'t delete your details of where the battery was, I inserted it into your other note.

Mark, I must disagree with you on this one.
I do feel my reply about warranties being made void was a valid comment. Say the altenator were to fail for instance, the dealer could quite rightly blame the heavier duty battery for causing it to fail. I wasn't trying to sound patronising, as mentioned in the thread you deleted. I wasn't trying to sound grumpy either. I do generally accept your moderating decisions, but in this instance it would seem that you are the one being grumpy, not us! No offence is meant. This is just my humble opinion of course.

Right I finally managed to replace the battery in my Corsa!

I checked online for nay helpful hints or tips, some suggested removing the wipers and then the splash grille!

I managed to get the damn thing out by first removing the screw (passenger side) that is holding the splash tray in place. It's near the bonnet hinge. This will give you a little more slack.

Remove some of the rubber seal that runs along the bulk head in front of the battery to give you a little more room.

When you have released the clamp holding the battery in place (left hand side) you will now have to manoeuvre the battery as far to the left as you can.

By twisting and tilting it you should be able to force it out.

I cracked a wee bit of the plastic grille doing this but only the underside so it doesn't make a difference!

7 years is a long time to wait.

Even after 7 years the design hasn't improved with age, the battery on the corsa C is in a stupid place, they put it in the rain gutter at the bottom of the windscreen.

You have to take off loads of trim to get it out, otherwise you'll crack the weak windscreen.

Cheap production is the score but it does give you loads more room in the engine bay to sort out other problems, like the egr, so I guess they scored an own goal with this one.
