Volkswagen Polo (2000 – 2002) Review

Volkswagen Polo (2000 – 2002) At A Glance

2/5

+Facelifted Polo III, still with an upmarket image. Better than pre-facelift and all now have power steering.

-Not as reliable or well built as its image might suggest. Appetite for front tyres and front brakes.

Will my car be charged when the ULEZ in London is extended?

"I have a 2001 petrol Volkswagen Polo 1.4. Will it comply with the extended ULEZ?"
The extended ULEZ will follow the same regulations as the current ULEZ, so you can check here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle-35896

What should I replace my old VW Polo with?

"What do you think of the 2016 Volkswagen Polo Match? I'm looking to replace my 16 year old Polo."
The Polo of that generation isn't a bad car but isn't as spacious as some alternatives. The Match is pretty low specification, too. We'd recommend a Hyundai i20 of that age.

Poblem with my petrol float - can you help?

" hi John i have a polo classic 2002 1.6i i want to know my petrol gauges never show me the right amount of petrol in my car when i start the cat the needled will show full but then it half while driving the gauges moves up and down must i replace the petrol float or is there something els fauty please need your help thanks"
Not an unknown problem with Polos. Probably a perforated float, but highly unwise to open the tank and start fiddling yourself. The slightest spark could send the car and you up in flames. If you ignore this advice, DEFINITELY MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE CAR BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

Volkswagen Polo ABS light problem

"The ABS light on my 2000 Polo Match remains on constantly despite the ABS still working normally. Removing the ABS fuse makes no difference. My local VW specialist thought replacing the instrument binnacle would work but despite considerable expense it has made no difference. It is otherwise a good low mileage car (56,00) for its age and I'm reluctant to scrap it. Have you any ideas? "
Possibly the same fault that has afflicted Golfs and other models. Failure of the brake pressure sensor inside the ATE Teves Mk 60 ABS/ESP module which can be replaced by http://www.ecutesting.com/ but worth checking the individual wheel sensors and reluctor rings first. Are you sure this is a 2000 Polo with ABS? Not a 2010?
