Whe it does start it sits at about 500 rpm for about 10 - 20 seconds regardless of whether i press the accelerator then it fires up properly and works fine. It only happens intermittently, i took it to a garage but they couldn't replicate the problem and charged me a lot of money to find nothing. Any advice would be much appreciated. Someone with a 6 year old car has to make a judgement on what needs replacing and what is ok. An alternator will fail at some stage but they can go at 10k or 110k, most folks leave them to go wrong before replacing them but others will replace as soon as they start making a noise to avoid a breakdown. As long as the engine is running fine there's little point changing the DPF at this stage. However, were the DPF to start to fail to regenerate then diagnostics will be required to ascertain if it's reached its end of life, you should get a warning light come on if that is the case. If you really want & need reliability and expect to keep the Focus for another 50k miles or so then you may need to replace the DPF during that time, in which case you could change the DPF sooner rather than later to ensure reliability. It's your call whether you decide to change the DPF or not. Compared to the Corolla, the Auris had harder plastics in the interior (this seems to be common amongst car makers - I preferred my previous 2003 Mazda 323 to the Mazda 3 for the same reason [ie. the interior seemed to be better finished]) and earlier versions (2007-2008) did seem to suffer from their share of rattles and scratch-prone trim. However, my Auris (touch wood) doesn't suffer from rattles, and the plastic interior trim has stood up well to our careful use (no scratches, etc). The 2 litre and 2.2 litre diesels do seem to have issues (head gasket failure for example), but Toyota has extended the warranty to five years on a lot of these cars provided they have a full Toyota service history. The 1.4 diesel seems relatively trouble free - so may be the better choice if it is a diesel you are seeking.. My Auris 1.33 is relatively well equipped - dual zone climate control, electric windows, seven airbags, 16 inch alloys, etc - has stop/start technology and a six speed gearbox. Can get just over 48mpg on a run, and 35'ish around Birmingham (32mpg for my Corolla around Birmingham). £120 car tax. Performance wise it is slightly slower than my 1.4 Corolla. The 1.33 engine is quite free revving - and has been described by other Auris owners on the Toyota Owners Club Auris forum as something of a gem (which I agree with). Warranty-wise - the five year warranty came into being from June 2010 - cars older than this would have the remainder of the Toyota three year warranty. You will probably never need it and if you do you will be treat as a customer with a problem which needs resolving rather than a drain on their resources. Wor tiddles changes up & up & up & up, never revs the car any more than necessary Quite amazing for a big heavy old car, on such a high milage engine. I got just over 60 mpg, actual brimmed figs over 5000 miles. outta the DSG 1.6 TDI Octavia during 4 weeks of Motorway driving at Motorway speeds Plus holiday sightseeing trips quite often in the more senic mountainous areas. Currently getting over 50 mpg outta the Octavia, mostly on v short winter runs. All on "bog-standard" diesel Motoring discussion dieseldogg Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=94895 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=94895&v=t&m=1044631 Most - Extra power day (unthrottled) hjforum1044630 Wed, 08 Feb 2012 16:00:00 +0000 Yes.
