MPV

1
Good: Neat styling. More practical than a Focus. Fine blend of ride comfort, handling and driver enjoyment. 1.6 TDCI emits 119g/km. High quality interior.
Bad: Small back window cuts rearwards visibility. 18-inch wheels don't do the ride any favours.
2
Good: Strong, powerful and frugal diesel engines, clever use of space inside, integrated child seats, standard DAB digital radio, excellent Park Assist system, practical and large sliding rear side door.
Bad: Not particularly exciting, seats don't fold into the floor in six-seat versions.
3
Good: Good range of efficient chain cam engines. Cheap to run. Good visibility. Easy to get in and out of. Plenty of rear passenger and boot space.
Bad: Similar Kia Venga has a longer warranty as standard.
4
Good: Compact yet can house seven people. Rearmost seats fold into floor. More versatile mid-row seating than previous model. Excellent diesel auto.
Bad: Spare wheel is vulnerable to theft. Some build quality concerns. Potential catastrophes with 1.9 diesel engine.
5
Good: Sliding side doors as standard, very spacious with a high quality interior, frugal and low CO2 TDI engines, sister car to the new Volkswagen Sharan but better value.
Bad: Not thrilling to look at, but then few MPVs are.
6
Good: Sharper styling and revamped interior, range of frugal engines including turbocharged chain cam 1.2 TSI, seven seats as standard and a versatile interior.
Bad: Not the smart new model that was expected.
7
Good: Decent practical family car. Very roomy in the back. Good load capacity. Drives and rides well. Best with 1.6 HDi engine.
Bad: Fussy styling. No automatic gearbox. Avoid £200 'Black' pack with 17-inch alloy wheels which spoil ride and handling. Avoid repeated short runs from cold with diesel versions.
8
Good: A seven seater sports car. Strong blend of comfort and handling, improved in 2010 with better diesels and Ecoboost engines.
Bad: 1.8 TDCI best avoided.
9
Good: Good value seven-seat people carrier. Immensely versatile. Easy to drive, good view out for all passengers. Three Isofix fittings across the centre seats.
Bad: Bumpers easily damaged. EGS gearbox requires getting used to otherwise lurches.
10
Good: Family friendly seven seater. Sport has remote electric sliding side doors. Economical and light new 1.6 diesel. Compliant suspension astonishingly good on poor road surfaces.
Bad: Folding centre seat not as clever as Ford Grand C-MAX.
