Luxury
1
Good: Imposing looks and incredible attention to detail inside, low emissions and affordable tax from 184g/km 3.0-litre diesel, superbly refined, wonderful to travel in.
Bad: Poor rear visibility for reversing, limited engine choice, high definition 'virtual instruments' can be difficult to read in strong sunlight, 20-inch rear tyres help roadholding but harm ride.
2
Good: The ultimate in luxurious travel, superb refinement and a pleasure to travel in, good to drive with agile handling, 3.0 TDI offers remarkable economy for such a large car, high-tech and stylish interior.
Bad: Not the most striking of designs.
3
Good: Refined and spacious alternative to a 7 Series or an X5, usefully large boot with clever twin opening, very comfortable and quiet, great performance from all engines.
Bad: Doesn't handle as well a 5 Series saloon, unusual styling looks awkward from certain angles, limited rear visibility.
4
Good: Refined with sports-car like handling, great performance, low emissions from hybrid version, stylish and high-class cabin, frugal diesel.
Bad: Hybrid not as good to drive as the rest of the engines.
5
Good: Sleek, good looking Jaguar XF competitor with Audi cachet. Sub 140g/km CO2 diesel engine good for company car BIK tax.
Bad: Google maps satnav uses a lot of expensive phone time. Extras can easily add £30k making used examples difficult to price.
6
Good: Wonderfully luxurious, high-class cabin, superb refinement on the move, the best looking limo this size, improved again from 2010.
Bad: Feels as big as it looks, sophisticated systems expensive to maintain and replace, costly servicing.
7
Good: High quality luxurious interior, huge amounts of space in the back, long wheelbase versions available, Efficient Dynamics means good economy and low CO2.
Bad: Too much tyre roar makes it probably the the harshest 'limo'.
8
Good: Big CO2 reductions, four-cylinder CLS 250 available at last, precisely-built interior, retains unique style of original CLS, features full LED headlights.
Bad: Rear headroom tight for taller passengers, options expensive
9
Good: Good value when compared to rivals and very highly equipped as standard, handles very well, strong engines including V6 diesel from 2010, well-built with a premium feel inside.
Bad: Small dealer network, V6 and V8 petrol engines are thirsty, Infiniti name only recognisable to those in the know.
10
Good: Sophisticated image backed up by superb refinement, luxurious and stylish cabin, feels well built, excellent off-road ability, carries more status than most rival 4x4s.
Bad: Not cheap to buy new, doesn't handle on-road as well as other large 4x4s, slow steering and sometimes a lot of weight transfer.
