High performance
1
Good: The best 911 Carrera in the range, adds even more enjoyment to the great driving experience, reasonable economy considering the superb performance it offers.
Bad: Doesn't look that different from a standard Carrera.
2
Good: One of the best handing cars available, superbly balanced and agile, amazing grip, sporty interior, relatively refined and comfortable enough for everyday use, available with double-clutch PDK gearbox.
Bad: More expensive than an equivalent Boxster, standard equipment levels are far from generous, best with a limited slip diff not fitted to early cars.
3
Good: Thunderous performance from lovely V8 engine, purposeful styling, amazing handling and traction, the usual high quality you'd expect from Audi throughout.
Bad: Not available as a manual which may put off some enthusiasts.
4
Good: Stormingly fast performance, superb V8 engine sound, high quality interior, great feelgood factor yet still docile at low speeds, available as coupe, convertible or saloon.
Bad: Not as involving to drive as an M3 should be, analogue instruments too small to read quickly, expensive to run.
5
Good: Characterful and powerful chain cam five-cylinder engine, yet friendly to drive at low speed. Sporty cabin, available as a Coupe or a Roadster.
Bad: Expensive compared to the rest of the TT range, not as involving to drive as the similarly priced Porsche Cayman.
6
Good: Genuine four-seat coupe with unusual rear hinged back doors, very involving to drive, good value for money second hand.
Bad: Will not stand short runs from cold starts, rotary engine lacks torque and needs to be worked very hard most of the time, high CO2 emissions plus poor fuel economy.
7
Good: Understated yet purposeful styling, stunning performance from supercharged V8, amazingly quick yet refined, XKR-S takes it into another league.
Bad: Only comes with an automatic gearbox, other high performance sports cars are more driver focussed.
8
Good: Racier image than the standard Boxster, high performance and handling levels, high quality cabin, available with PDK double-clutch gearbox.
Bad: No air conditioning as standard, designed primarily for open-top driving and manual roof is fiddly, noisy on the motorway, very firm ride.
9
Good: Great performance and wonderful engine, easy to drive quickly, seven-speed automatic transmission works well, the only £30,000 hairy chested sportscar.
Bad: Visibility isn't good, manual gearbox loved by some drivers but not by others, thirsty and expensive to run.
10
Good: Thunderous performance from V8 engine yet docile at low speeds, high quality cabin, well equipped as standard, understated looks.
Bad: Hard ride especially on uneven roads, not as involving as other top performance saloons.
