Executive
1
Good: Impressive cabin with a straightforward layout. Very quiet and refined on the move. Sat nav and leather seats as standard, efficient 2.0 TDI. Hybrid from 2012.
Bad: Less standard spec than previous model and optional extras can very quickly push the price up.
2
Good: Wonderful, bespoke feeling interior. Amazingly quiet and refined. Strong performance from all engines. Impressive 2.2 diesel from 2011. Sat nav as standard on most models.
Bad: 20-inch wheels needed by XFR but not by any of the diesels and give poor ride. Very early cars suffered electrical gremlins.
3
Good: Superbly luxurious travel, refined and classy interior, great to drive or to be driven in, plenty of cabin room, remarkably efficient 520d, simply the best executive saloon on the market, five-star NCAP crash rating.
Bad: Steering doesn't quite have the feel or weight you'd expect from a BMW.
4
Good: Svelte coupe looks with large hatchback practicality. Plenty of space and headroom in the back. Low emissions from 2.0 TDI 170.
Bad: Firm ride on S line models. Cruise control hidden behind steering wheel. Options quickly add up to thousands and make used examples difficult to price.
5
Good: Distinctive design, comfortable cabin, impressive rear passenger room and large boot, fuel efficient 2.0 TiD engine, precise steering, well equipped as standard.
Bad: Firm ride, notchy manual gearbox, interior doesn't feel as upmarket as it should given the price.
6
Good: Distinctive and sharp looks, excellent CDI diesels, good motorway cruiser, very comfortable and refined, feels very well built.
Bad: Steering could do with more feel, lacklustre petrol and automatic gearbox combination, interior not as inviting as other premium saloons.
7
Good: High quality and refined cabin. Good engines including frugal TDI diesels. Plenty of rear passenger room. Maximum five-star crash test rating. Classy image.
Bad: Earlier 2.0 TDI PD engine not especially refined and had some problems. Originally shown as a 4 seater and rear seat not very roomy.
8
Good: Alternative to Mercedes E-Class for big, prestigious five-seater 'private hire' operators and owners simply wanting a big, safe, solid car. Much improved
Bad: Very close to E Class prices, except for sensible, entry level 2.0 litre models. Few will buy the 4WD I6 and V8.
9
Good: Incredibly refined and quiet. Effortless performance from all engines. Hybrid GS450h is superbly refines. Stuffed with technology and equipment. Excellent crash test rating.
Bad: Not the smoothest motorway cruiser. Some reports of below-par cabin assembly. Alloy wheels can oxidise. No diesel in the range.
10
Good: Delivers superb refinement and luxury, available with new 3.0-litre V6 diesel, high-quality and comfortable interior, impressive level of standard equipment, eco-friendly hybrid version followed in 2011.
Bad: Infiniti brand not as recognisable as other premium brands, M37 is thirsty, standard GT model is soft in corners.
