T180 2.2 D-4D People Carrier

Reliable until it wasn't

I bought this car with 12,000 miles on the clock @ 9 months old. It has now done 75,000.
At 55,000 miles the engine failed and reverted to limp mode. The electronics were reset by a Toyota main dealer and the engine failed totally at 70,000 miles owing to a blocked exhaust gas re-circulation pipe. Toyota deny the existence of a service notice relating to this fault, and deny responsibility for allowing the vehicle to run out of warranty without resolving the fault.

This is a pity since except for a single reservation of appallingly uncomfortable drivers seat the vehicle has been a paragon of virtue since purchase. It has only been used on 1200 mile regular trips at constant motorway speeds. Only serviced by Toyota main agents and using no oil between services

Stable quiet and unstressed it is an excellent long distance high speed cruising vehicle with an enormous capacity for carrying domestic junk across Europe. Its just a pity Toyota can't build diesel engines that can run reliably as has been my experience with both Ford and Citroen
