Don't be fooled by the stated mpg.

I came to this car from a Merc C-Class 220 CDI. I fancied having an SUV because of the high seating and wanted to switch to petrol as I thought diesel cars were going to be hit with extra taxes. Had a couple of test drives and really liked this 1.4 engine. The choice then became between the A3 Saloon and the Q3. In the end I opted for the Q3. I'm disappointed with the economy of this car. This is especially so when on a run on the motorway. Travelling at 70 or even 65 mph I struggle to get 40 mpg (according to the car's computer). Now I didn't expect this vehicle to be as economical as my Merc (65mpg on the motorway)- but struggling to get over 40mpg? I also find that parking this car is not easy - it feels very bulky. Yes, the fixtures and fittings are very good and it looks good in Misano Red Pearlescent, plus it has a spare wheel! It's definitely economical in town driving - mainly because I can drive in 6th gear at just over 40 mph. Engine is also very quiet. The gearing is the trouble on the motorway. It's too low - 70 mph equates to about 2,500 rpm. Would I buy another SUV? Not unless it was more fun to drive (the best fun car I test drove was a Mazda CX3). I can see myself returning to Mercedes. I'm also looking at perhaps getting a hybrid. I'm hoping fuel economy will improve as the engine beds in as my diesel did (only done 2900+ miles at the moment). Looks like Audi-VW may have have exaggerated the performance of this petrol engine along with their diesels!
