Following on from the launch of the A6 saloon and Avant models last year, the Allroad arrives in February 2012. With its quattro four-wheel drive, chunkier styling and raised ride height, it's a very capable car when it comes to coping with less than ideal road conditions.

With its desirable image and stylish looks, it's no surprise the A1 has been a real success for Audi. And now there's a more practical five-door version joining the line up - badged the A1 Sportback. It will be available with the 2.0 TDI 143PS engine which is new to the A1.

The RS5 has been revised with the same improvements that have already been seen on the A5 range. These include a new front end with fresh headlights, LED rear lights plus new bumpers. It keeps the same 4.2-litre V8 engine with 450PS while inside there's sat nav and Bluetooth as standard.

It's not a huge departure in terms of styling but the new A3 should still prove a very popular premium hatchback among buyers after a high quality car. The interior looks good with a design that's new to Audi and it gets a range of economical engines including the 1.6 TDI diesel.

The RS4 is back but unusually this time only as an Avant. The RS5 Coupe essentially replaced the old RS4 saloon so Audi has decided to do something a little different by making an estate only version. It gets a 4.2-litre V8 engine producing 450PS which delivers a 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds.

The new four-door version of the 6 Series is just as good looking as the coupe and will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLS and the Audi A7 Sportback. Prices are expected to start at around £60,000 when it goes on sale in June.

The impressive 6 Series was launched last year and now BMW has revealed the high performance M6 version. Available as both a coupe and convertible it's powered by the same 4.4-litre V8 as the M5 which develops 560PS giving a 0-62mph time of just 4.2 seconds.

The Camaro has been on sale in the US since 2009 but in the UK we've had to wait. Patience pays off though and 2012 will see one of the most exciting cars arrive. Powered by a 6.2-litre V8 it promises blistering performance. But the best bit is the price - just £34,995.

Following on from the launch of the five-door Cruze hatchback last year, the even more practical estate version of the Cruze has a maximum boot capacity of 1500 litres and will be available with a new 1.7 VCDi diesel that emits 119g/km of CO2.

Citroen has brought back the DS badge as a high quality line in its model range. The DS5 is the third and supposedly final model in the range and it certainly stands out with an unusual look. The large five-door comes with a Hybrid4 - a diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain which emits just 99g/km.

The C4 Aircross is a new compact SUV from Citroen that is actually based on the Mitsubishi ASX. It will be available with two or four-wheel drive and the engine line-up includes a 1.6-litre 115PS petrol, a 1.6-litre 110PS HDi diesel and a 1.8 HDi with 150PS.

The reinvented Panda proved a big hit for Fiat when it was launched in 2004 and this latest model should build on that success. The new model gets a softer, less boxy look, along with improved interior quality and will be available with Fiat's impressive TwinAir engine.

Looking a bit like a strange cross between a standard Fiat 500 and a Panda, the 500L - the L stands for large if you didn't guess - is a more practical five-door version of Fiat's trendy small motor. Prices are expected to start at around £13,000 and it will go on sale later in 2012.

One of the most eagerly anticipated cars of 2012, the new Focus ST drops the much-loved 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine of the outgoing model and instead adopts a more efficient 250bhp version of the new 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine promising better performance and economy.

The new B-MAX is a small people carrier similar in size to the Fiesta and unusually it comes with sliding side doors with no pillar between to make access easy. It will be available with Ford's new 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Prices are expected to start at around £12,500.

The fourth generation CR-V is bigger than the outgoing model and promises more interior space. It's a shame the design isn't as striking - this version seems fairly anonymous but on the plus side it comes with more economical engines including the impressive 2.2 i-DTEC diesel.

Hyundai is certainly a brand on the up and has a vastly improving image among buyers. The quality of its cars improves with each new model launched and this is good news for the i30 which has an upmarket feel inside and looks good from the outside. It also gets cleaner engines.

The replacement for the Hyundai Coupe, the stylish Veloster went on sale earlier this year and Hyundai is now launching a turbocharged version which boosts power from the current 140PS up to 186PS. It also gets a quicker steering rack and a sports exhaust.

The i30 Tourer promises to be very practical with a 528-litre boot that's bigger than the Ford Focus Estate and Vauxhall Astra Estate. Folding down the rear seats increases this to 1642 litres and the rear hatch opens to bumper level, meaning there’s no lip over which to lift heavy objects.

The XF has proved a huge success for Jaguar but up till now it's only been available as a saloon. So it's no surprise to see an estate version - or Sportbrake as Jaguar likes to call it - on the way. It's expected to cost around £2,500 more than the saloon and has a 500-litre boot.

The Optima is Kia's new saloon and will be the 'flagship' in the brand's line-up in the UK. It's aimed mainly at company car buyers so comes with just one engine - a 1.7-litre CRDi diesel with 134bhp that averages 57.6mpg. Prices start at £19,595 on the road.

The sister car to the forthcoming Hyundai i30, the all-new Cee'd will arrive this summer and Kia is promising a driver-focussed interior with a better quality finish and improvements in refinement. Like all Kia models it will come with a seven-year warranty as standard.

Lexus has been fairly quiet in 2011 with the CT 200h its only significant new arrival. There's more to come in 2012 though starting with the GS. As before it will come as a hybrid GS 450h plus there will be a petrol GS 250 but the big news is the addition of a diesel version.

The hybrid RX 450h gets a slight facelift this year with a new front end, revised tail lights and an overhauled interior. The update brings the styling into line with the new GS, above while pricing should remain the same, starting at around £45,000.
Mercedes-Benz is promising improvements for the second generation B-Class including cleaner engines, improved gearboxes and better driving dynamics. Power comes from four-cylinder engines - all of which are turbocharged including a 1.6-litre petrol with 122PS and 156PS.

The new M-Class will be considerably more economical than the model it replaces. The 3.0-litre V6 CDI engine has been replaced by a four-cylinder 2.2-litre engine that produces the same power but with economy improved from 33.6mpg to 47mpg along with lower CO2 emissions.

The styling may not be a big departure but Mercedes-Benz assures us this is an 'all-new' SL-Class. There’s a range of technological advances, improving everything from fuel economy to the windscreen wipers, while the top SL500 model is a V8 engine that produces 435PS.

It's fair to say the outgoing A-Class wasn't an especially good looking or desirable car but Mercedes-Benz is aiming to change all that with the new model. It now has a much more conventional hatchback shape similar to the BMW 1 Series and will come with a higher quality interior than before.

The MINI range continues to expand with the Roadster and Coupe this year but the Countryman hasn't been forgotten. It's been given the John Cooper Works treatment turning it into a neat looking hot hatch. Power comes from a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine producing an impressive 218PS.

The Outlander has proved a popular model for Mitsubishi and produced two clones in the shape of the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser. This all-new model is similar in size but gets a smoother look and will be available with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

Along with a striking new look, the new Peugeot 208 is lighter and more aerodynamic than the 207 it will replace, which is good news for fuel economy and emissions too - no model in the range emits more than 99g/km. Peugeot is also promising improvements in ride and handling.

It may not look especially different but this Boxster is fresh from the wheels up and gets an all-new lightweight body, new flat-six engines with direct petrol injection and a completely revised chassis. It's priced at £37,589 for the Boxster while the more powerful Boxster S costs £45,384.

Renault’s Fluence Z.E electric vehicle will cost £17,850 (after the £5,000 government grant) when it goes on sale in 2012, making it the cheapest EV on sale until the Zoe (below) arrives. After buying a Fluence Z.E owners then lease the battery from Renault at a cost of £75 per month.

Renault is leading the way when it comes to electric cars and the new Zoe should prove its most popular. The Clio-sized hatchback will cost just £13,650 (after the plug-in grant deduction) which is cheaper than anything else electric. Owners will then pay a monthly battery lease of £70.

Saab's future may still not be resolved but the brand still has plenty of models in the pipeline, even if there is a question mark about whether they will see production. The 9-4X is a large 4x4 that's based on the Cadillac SRX, but Saab sees the Audi Q5 as a key rival.

The Mii doesn't have anything to do with the Nintendo Wii - but is in fact SEAT's new city car and the cousin to the Volkswagen Up and the Skoda Citigo. It's small at just 3.5 metres long making it ideal for city driving but also offers enough space inside for four adults.

The Citigo is Skoda's version of the Volkswagen Up and SEAT Mii. The little three-door hatchback sits below the Fabia and as the name suggests - is designed for city and urban driving. It's powered by a new 1.0-litre petrol engine that comes in two versions of either 60PS or 75PS.

Five years after it was launched, Smart is giving the ForTwo a facelift with some subtle styling tweaks plus an an upgraded interior. The new models will be available in the UK from April 2012 with prices expected to start at around £9000.

Subaru hasn't had the best of times recently with the latest Impreza seen as a big disappoinment by many. The brand is certainly crying out for some new models and the XV is the answer. It's a crossover in the ilk of the Nissan Qashqai and gets a revised version of Subaru's boxer diesel.

It seems the magic might be returning for Subaru if the new BRZ is anything to go by. Co-developed with the Toyota GT 86 it's powered by a 200PS 2.0-litre 'boxer' engine and early indications are that it's great to drive with sharp handling.

Toyota hasn't had many cars with the fun factor lately but the GT 86 should change all that. Developed alongside the Subaru BRZ, the GT 86 is powered by a four-cylinder boxer engine, which is mounted at the front but drives the rear wheels.

The new Astra VXR will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 280PS and 400Nm of torque, making the high performance hatch the fastest production Astra ever built. Based on the Astra GTC, the VXR gets a newly developed mechanical limited slip differential.

While Volkswagen's last small car, the Fox, was as dull as dishwater, its funky new Up is the polar opposite. The stylish hatch will be cheap to run thanks to an economical 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that averages more than 60mpg plus it looks affordable with prices starting at £7,995.

Volkswagen has facelifted the Passat CC and given it a new name - well almost. It's now just called the CC while other changes include styling tweaks to bring it in line with the rest of the new (or facelifted) Volkswagen range. These include redesigned bumpers plus updated lights.

The original 'new' Beetle was never quite as popular as Volkswagen hoped it would be so it's a surprise to many that the brand is introducing a new 'new' Beetle (so to speak). Longer and wider than the model it replaces it's been designed to look more like the original Volkswagen Beetle.

Audi has its allroad range and Skoda builds the Octavia Scout so now Volkswagen is getting in on the act with its own off-road version of an estate - the Passat Alltrack. Like the others it comes with raised ground clearance, extra body protection plus of course 4MOTION four-wheel drive.

Following on from the launch of the Golf Convertible last year (which shares a lot with the Audi A3 Convertible) comes the GTI version. It gets all the extras you'd expect like a rear diffuser, 17 inch alloy wheels and a honeycomb grille while power comes from a 2.0 TFSI engine with 210PS.

Volvo launched the C30 hatchback - an alternative to the likes of the Audi A3 - in 2006 but it's only ever been available as a three-door. The V40 fills the five-door gap and promises more interior space than the C30 and a larger boot too. Prices are expected to start at around £19,000.
