Frankfurt 2011: Suzuki Swift Sport details

Suzuki has today revealed the Swift Sport, the performance flagship of the Swift range, set to go on sale in the UK next year. It features a retuned version of the 1.6-litre VVT petrol engine fitted to the outgoing model, with power increased from 125PS to 136PS, and peak torque increased from 148Nm to 160Nm.

Power is sent to the front wheels by way of a six-speed manual gearbox. The additional gear ratio over the outgoing model’s five-speed gearbox allows for greater fuel efficiency and improved performance. CO2 emissions are 147g/km, down from 165g/km and fuel economy is improved by 4.3mpg to 44.1mpg.

The new Swift Sport new headlamps, a large front grille, finned foglamp surrounds, new tail lights, and a selection of aerodynamically enhanced parts give the Sport a ground-hugging stance.

The interior stands out from the standard Swift thanks to exclusive red-trimmed seat upholstery and aluminium pedals.

Handling has been fine tuned, with stiffer suspension and increased rigidity helping to improve stability and agility through corners. Specially designed 195/45R17 tyres provide grip, with standard fit ESP to help keep things under control.

The new model goes on sale in October in some markets, but won’t be available in the UK until early next year.
