Europcar Says More Are Hiring Cars Instead of Buying

This week’s Pre-budget report is set to confirm VAT going back up to 17.5% in 2010 and the end of the scrappage scheme making it even more expensive to buy a new car.

A recent survey by Europcar found that:

·          65% are driving less and switching to other transport or walking for short journeys to save costs

·          62% have changed the way they drive to conserve fuel

·          A third have opted to car share to save costs.  

·          The respondents most likely to have cut back on motoring costs are those that have used car hire in the past suggesting these drivers are more switched on to
the alternative transport options.
