Saving You Money

It doesn't have to be difficult, though, to save possibly hundreds of pounds when insuring your car. With the internet having a greater impact on our everyday lives, more and more consumers are purchasing their car insurance online.

There are numerous websites (such as www.comparethemarket.com and www.confused.com) which specialise in finding the best quote. You only need to enter your details once and they automatically produce a list of results for you to pursue further. Alternatively, if you have a favoured company, you can visit individual websites or telephone their dedicated call centres. It is often best to try to buy your insurance over the internet because many companies offer a discount for buying online as they want to encourage this method because it means they need fewer staff at the end of a phone.

While there may be companies that offer discounts to certain kinds of people (such as women drivers, retired drivers or full time students), it is worth shopping around to find the best quote. The bigger companies listed in the telephone directory will more often than not either have a freephone (0800) or local (0845) contact number so you won't be paying a fortune for the phone call. If you want to do your research online and know the name of the company you want to contact, you can search for their website if you don't know their address. It's worth noting, however, that you will need to enter your full details on every website you access for a quote.

There are numerous insurance brokers on the High Street if you prefer to deal with someone face to face although some have decided to cease trading because of the increase in the number of people buying their insurance online. Remember they will earn commission from any policy they sell but you will get a more personal service that is tailored to suit your particular needs. It is far easier to compare the finer details of the policies on offer - such as insuring multiple vehicles, whether they include breakdown cover, a courtesy car in the event of an accident or the level of any voluntary excess when you've got an expert sitting in front of you.
