Helpful advice

Before you start contacting the various companies to get the best quote, remember to make sure you have the answers to hand for any questions you'll be asked.

This will include your personal details as well of those of any other drivers you want to be named on the policy; the make and model of your vehicle plus your registration number and where it will normally be stored overnight; how many years No Claims Discount you are entitled to - the insurers will ask to see proof of this; and details of how you intend to pay for your insurance (bank details for direct debit instalments or credit/debit card number).

It's worth thinking about the level of voluntary excess you want to opt for; a cheaper quote might sound best but you might reconsider if you find you're expected to pay the first £1,000, for example, in the event of a claim.
