Buying a second-hand MPV for long trips - ohnostopgo

I'm looking for a second-hand MPV for two small but long-distance house moves, from near London to Italy and the north of Scotland. The loads will be mostly suitcases with one or two small pieces of furniture.

Priorities are reliability, low fuel consumption, space in the back (I miss my old Toyota Previa for that) and resale value (probably won't be keeping the car after these trips)

My budget is up to £4000 - any tips?

A derivative of a panel-van will have more luggage room than a lifestyle MPV. Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner 2.0Hdi will do the job as well as anything this side of a transit van. Not as terrible to drive as they look and capable of decent economy if you keep the speed on the peage down.
