skoda octavia - cliate control problems - davidalbert

The aircon in my Octavia was not working - so had the gas replaced (£40), still not working - garage said the ecu probably needed resetting but could only be done by a Skoda garage. The Skoda garage insisted on a diagnostic check (£80+) to tell me, what I already knew, that the climate control was not working.

But the ecu cannot be reset need a whole new unit at a cost of nearly £800!!

Two questions - is there an alternative and as winter approaches if I don't get the work done will I have no heating?

I don't know your car but all heating systems are similar, the air regulating flaps in the heater are operated by servo motors, unless yours is fully mechanical which I doubt, if you can gain access to these flaps you should be able so set them manually, but you won't of course be able to change the settings while driving.
