In the week I drive a Laguna II diesel which gets to and from work, for the family we have a Omega Estate, MV6 3.0 auto and its great, wife poodles along in the week and go a little bit fater at the weekends!
BUT I hear the Omega is to be no more according to the Sunday Times, Prince Charles is not getting another one but an Audi apparently as Omegas are not made any more. Outcry as he has said buy british food and not buying an Omega, do they know it is built in Germany!
I know the current Omega is to be replaced and have kept an eye for what that is. Last year I recall Autoexpress advising Omega replacement 2004 and then nothing since.
Then get to hear about Signum, due spring 2003, then Vectra does not have an estate but due in 2003, proposed to be biggest in class and still nothing on Omega replacement.
So it seems obvious to me know the Omega is not going to be replaced as such but by Vectra varients that is if the Sunday Times is to be belived it is no longer.
Does anyone know what the plan is for the Omega, only that in 2003 I want to get another estate, maybe A6 Avant, Volvo v70 but have come back round to Omega again, get them at half the price of the german or swedes car for the same year but not half the car! But I want to buy at the right time or not buy so just want to know a bit more about what people think / know is going to happen to the Omega.....
By the way I can answer my own question, buy in December 2003, you know what would have happened and the dealers will be quiet!! But I do not think I can wait that long!!

There'll still be ex-Thames Valley MV6 police cars in three years' time. Omegas, especially ex-police estates and saloons in general, are dirt cheap now and if anything may actually hold their value once there aren't rental companies and fleets getting them at stupid discounts because new private buyers have been scared off by their comedy depreciation.
(Omega sales to private buyers were in three figures last year).
£12k gets you a nine month old car, which is comparable money to a Mondeo LX, but it's bigger, faster, usually automatic, well put together, and rear wheel drive. I can't see why you should wait because buying a new one isn't a realistic option for private buyers and as there is no competition, people who buy Omegas are unlikely to be put off by the fact that you can't get a new one any more.
What sort of age/mileage were you thinking of buying at anyway?

Appox 2 years 30k elite, maybe MV6 estate fullly loaded and IF I go for Omega might hunt for one with colur sat nav cos I like my toys.
But I am in no rush so can afford to hang around, other half wants 2.5 diesel to save dosh on fuel so have to convince her at home as well!!

The Omega isn't being replaced when production finishes at the end of 2003. The forthcoming Vectra Estate, with a 5in longer wheelbase, will take sales over from the Omega Estate as it will have the same load capability. The Signum is not a replacement for the Omega as it is also based on the Lwb Vectra mechanicals.
GM are said to be developing a large fwd chassis, with a 4wd option, able to take the new small petrol V8 also under development, as well as existing petrol and diesel V6's. This chassis will probably be used by a small Cadillac, a large Opel/Vauxhall and a medium Saab.
2006 should be a good year for GM fans.

What GM cars feature a V6 diesel in the UK?
|
The GM (Isuzu) 3.0 V6 diesel is currently available in the UK in the Saab 9-5 Saloon/Estate and will shortly be available in the Vectra Hatch/Saloon and the new Vectra Estate. It should also be available in the forthcoming Signum.
