An obvious thing to look at would be the wiring going to the driver's door.
Presumably, in common with most cars, there's a bit between the door and the frame in a flexible boot and a broken / shorting wire in there from the repeated flexing due to opening and closing the door could well be the source. Certainly an easy place to start.
Another possiblity would be the locking actuator / sensor on the driver's door itself. If that's stuck in the "open" position it would do this.
