Vauxhall Astra E - Very old Astra - geedubyapeetoo

[No idea if the letter is correct}

Following a recent family bereavement, we have a 1995 Vauxhall Astra Merit Automatic with only 12000 miles on the clock. Is there any market at all for this, or is it simply a one-way trip to the scrap yard? This seems an awful waste, as the car is in reasonably good condition, though I realise the mileage is a bit on the low side!

As a secondary question - what are we supposed to do about the name on the registration document - do we need to change this to myself before we can sell (if anyone wants it) or scrap it?

Thanks

Graham

Hi,I would sell the car on e bay without a reserve ,it's likely to sell for about £500 ,to reach the widest audience ,run the add for 7 days .if the car has a new mot it will sell for a higher price .however it's not worth spending more than about £100 ,to have it motd.you don't need to have the car registered in your name to sell it .regards tony g

1995 is a Mk3 Astra, otherwise known in Opel speak as an Astra F. There's a decent enough market for old, good condition Astras.

A local dealer who specialises in old, perfect condition motors has a 1998 Mk4 Astra LS 1.6 for sale for £4500, it's got sub-10k miles on it and looks like it rolled out of Ellesmere Port last week.

Autotrader would be my first port of call.

£4500 ? It looks like a fantasy figure to me ,who in their right mind would pay £4500 for 14 year old Astra ,with the less desirable auto box .

Who said it was auto? I think you're confused.

No confusion on my part ,the original post was about an automatic ,you fail to mention in your post that the £4500 car was manual .

Whether the car was manual or auto ,the price is still ludicrous , I currently have an 04 Audi A3 2.0 tdi for sale,45000 miles full Audi history,for sale ,yours for £6000 ,puts it in perspective ,doesn't it ?

Is there nobody else amongst your family or friends who'd like a half-decent car to run 'til the wheels fall off?

Worth far more as "the devil you know" than it is in sale.

Many thanks for the replies. It's early days yet, so I'll see if I know anyone who may want it first, and then explore the ebay option.

Thanks again all.
