peugeot406 hdi 110 estate - loss of power - mushypeas

while driving the speedometer suddenly drops and theres a distinct lack of power, untill it kicks back in again this happens a few times per journey . recently i fitted a new middle and tail section exhaust which made the problem disappear for four days then it reappeared again, any ideas please thanks

Probably the speedo sensor which is mounted on the diff housing just above where the o/s drive shaft enters, reasonable job, only held on with one bolt and a plug. Available on ebay for not to much money.
