vw golf3 - idling problem

my car turns off when on idle..in short it does nt idle at all...to keep the car on i must keep my foot on the accelerator paddle.......once i release it the car turns off.......please help me

You either have a large air leak in the vcuum pipe that goes around the rear RH corner of the engine or the stepper idler motor by the injector has stuck/failed. I assume this is a 1.8 monotronic. Regards Peter

it is a 1.8 monotronic .....i will check those faults....

i recently been informed that...the problem is caused by timing..the car is out of timing..so could this be the cause of our problem?...because i checked the faults you said i should address and it is alright....but the fan belt timing is out of line...

There is no fan belt. How has the timing changed have you recently had the timing belt changed. Regards Peter
