99 ford focus - Rattle from exhaust - Fin1111

There is a very loud rattle from my exhaust when it gets hot. Even when i open and close any one of the doord it makes a noise.There is no hole in it and it is not loose. I have been told it might be the Cat, any suggestions?

You need it on a ramp or slide under it on axle stands and bang the cat & the silencers if loose you will know.

Could be an internal baffle has come loose.

Check it's not the heat shield coming away from it's mounting points, as that can rattle too.

My wife's 2000 Focus had a similar rattle - it was the metal foil heat shield between the exhaust and the floorpan which had become slightly insecure and was rattling against the exhaust system. Easily rectified by running it up on a ramp and crawling underneath to do the necessaries....

Hi,

I had the same problem with a 99 Focus. I took it to the garage and there were alot of stones caught in the heat sheild. May not be the same thing but that made a racket until the garage cleared it out.
