MPG decrease since ATF fluid replaced - balleballe

Can anyone possibly think as to why this would be?

I have a mazda 6 auto and the original ATF fluid had never been replaced so I replaced if a fortnight ago via mazda dealer (car was at 88k). Invoiced for 3 litres of ATF fluid replaced

Since then the gear changes are not as smooth (when it goes from one to two...you can really feel the surge of power) and my economy is down 3-4mpg (same driving I have done week in and week out for years)

I'm guessing ok, but there are different types of automatic transmission fluid. Perhaps the dealers replacement is not as good as what was in the car as new.

Have a look in the book and see what the precise specifications are. Then ask the dealer what they use. Don't say say any more and do the web research on the various fluid types.

I've met dealers who bought oil in bulk that was not to the handbook specification. Not saying that has happened here, but I think you need to check.

Generally, assuming nothing pollutes the oil, use will make it thinner as the shear strength will be deminished. So I would expect you 'd notice even if the right oil was used, but this sound a bit more.

Most ATF changes don't change all the fluid unless the trnasmission pan is removed and the filter cleared as well.

Was your filter cleaned.? If not, an oil change would probably help to reditribute the dirt around.

Ask what they did and check the handbook to see what is recommneded by Mazda..

Do you think the clue was in the question? Something like ' You can feel the surge in power'. I suspect your mashing your right foot down a little harder than before m8.

I shall find out what ATF fluid they used and what's recommended - thanks

The filter was not changed - I was told that this was not necessary? oh well

I'm driving exactly the same as before mate, no different at all.

Either the wrong fluid has been used or the wrong amount has been added. Some 'boxes need to be hooked up to a computer to set the fluid levels correctly. I wouldn't let a main dealer anywhere near my 'box (oo-er) - only specialist trannie places would get a look in (oh matron).
