Evening all,

I was driving home a few days ago when there was a popping/snapping noise, the engine remained on, but if you pressed the accelerator there was no power.

My local garage say the problem is the front off side drive shaft, which has snapped in half and that a replacement is needed . Not only will this cost £300, but there is also a surcharge of £150 which will be refunded if VW can use the broken part again.

Does this sound right?

The garage has said this is a very common problem on VW 07 cars. This is very annoying as there are only 25k of miles on the clock. Has anyone managed to get VW to replace this post the warranty running out.
