Hi Guys

Nice quick one for you - 03 Fiesta, 1.4 zetec, 66k.

Ecu light on, scan shows code "P0444 - Evaporative emission system purge control valve - circuit open"

Reset it, and it stays out for at least 10 miles.

Anyone had dealings with this before - i presume the code refers to a carbon canister - and the purge valve either being pooped, or a broken wire etc ???

quite correct on both accounts, check the solonoid first and then the wiring.

Don't know about this model but on earlier Fiestas,it was mounted on bulkhead behind engine with vacuum pipe connecting it to manifold.

Found and fixed.

Location : front of head, under the air box, NS.

Fault : unplugged.

As this car was bought from auction, i can only presume that someone looking for a bargain decided that they would unplug the solenoid, in turn illuminating the ECU light. and, in doing so, putting off would be bidders, or lowering the price of the winning bid.

Pretty poor IMHO.

Still, an easy fix for me, and no ££££ involved. Makes a change !

Maybe that's why it was put into auction in the first place? The CEL puts the fear of God into people-when often the problem is minor and easy to fix. Just glad I don't have one! I decide when the car's sick, not a computer.
