Thank you for your comments and observations.
I bought the car new on the 28th September 2005 directly from a KIA Dealer in Staffordshire. The gearbox failure occurred on the 5th January 2011. The car has a fully documented service history carried out at the recommeded intervals by a KIA Dealer except for the last (minor) service which was carried out by an Independent Daewoo Specialist Garage. The last gearbox oil change was documented as being carried out by the original supplying KIA Dealer on the 25th September 2009.
The car is occasionally used to tow a caravan, but certainly well within the guidelines set in the manufacturers' handbook guidelines. The car has never been off-roading, has always been driven with great respect and this breakdown is the first thing ever to go wrong with it.
All KIA Sorento's sold between 2007 and 2009 came with a full seven year manufacturers' warranty and I am led to believe that they were fitted with an identical gearbox to mine. Surely if KIA have the confidence to offer a seven year warranty on mechanically identical models to mine then they should acknowledge that the gearbox fitted to my car should have remained seviceable longer?
I would like to ask this question: Would the manufacturer argue that towing a caravan, albeit occasionally, did contribute to my gearbox failure? Or would they aknowledge the fact that there are many Sorento's out there, manufactured between 2003 and 2009, bought especially as a towcar? It is also well noting that the KIA Sorento was given the Towcar of the Year Award by the Caravan Club in 2004.
Any comments and observations would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
PeterP.
