Ford Escort 1.6 si - not starting

Ford Escort 1.6 si - not starting - golf3driver

I bought this escort 1.6 si " n " reg as a non runner due to water pump & thermostat needed changing, i have replaced the water pump, cam belt, drive belt, spark plugs, made sure the engine was in line for tdc properly but it will not start, it is a low miliege car with 68,000 very genuine miles and owned by an old dear from new. any help on this would be much appreciated ?

Have you got the leads and spark plugs in the right order - 2 doors up from me did not and changing them around got it going - 20 years ago but still valid issue today.

hi, yes they are in right order as the ignition pack is numbered to make it easier and i labeled the leads before taking them out
