Peugeot 205 - Starting Problem - mscott

Most of the time it'll start fine. Sometimes you turn the ignition and the warning lights come on but when you turn the key further to engage the starter all the electics go off completely ie clock, warning lights, the lot. So, open the bonnet, disconnect the quick release positive battery lead, then reattach it and everything back to normal. Except yesterday this quick fix didn't work and I had to jump start it from another car. Could this be a battery fault, a dodgy lead (which looks fine) or some strange Peugeot electrical gremlin?

The most likely problem is poor battery connections, take off both terminals and scrape the posts until you can see clean metal, do the same with the connectors then apply some grease before reconnection. The battery could be faulty or it could be a poor connection on the other end of the battery leads but try cleaning them first.
