Mazda 6 - 2005 - Rear Brake pad replacement - Robin the Technician

Hi,

Serviced my Son's car yesterday prior to MOT next saturday. I noticed the rear brake pads are low and will need replacing in the near future. Will I need a special tool to turn the caliper piston back in like many cars do? Does the piston have slots in it that you can get a rair of curved pointed nose pliers on?

Any help would be appreciated.

On many Mazda's you will find on the back of the rear calipers a cap which you use a 14mm spanner to remove. You will then see a screw which you need an allen key for. Turn this screw to retract the piston, and after you have fitted the pads, reassembled everything and pumped up the brake pedal turn the screw in the opposite direction to take up the slack to adjust the handbrake.
