New KIA Sportage autobox - Vincent de Marco

When it comes to KIA's new Sportage and its autoboxes (6-speed), they only say they've got new Lambda II for the diesel and Theta II for the petrol. But hey, do they manufacture them all by themselves or use a proper manufacturer like JATCO or Aisin ?

"...will be the all-new six-speed automatic transmission, which had been developed jointly by Hyundai and Kia Motors.

Just yesterday, Hyundai announced the development of this highly advanced automatic transmission has been completed. In it’s official press release, Hyundai pointed out that it has joined the elite class of auto manufacturers who have designed their very own proprietary 6–speed automatics. After Ford-GM joint venture and Toyota, Hyundai became the 3rd company in the world to develop it’s own 6–speed automatic transaxle.

Until now, only Hyundai Genesis sedan and Kia Borrego have been using the six-speed automatics, but those transmissions were developed by Aisin and Germany’s ZF company."

OK, but I meant Sportage, NOT the Sorento.

Reasonable assumption that having developed their own autobox they would use it in all Kia/Hyundai models

"Kia and Hyundai have already announced a wide range of their next generation vehicles will get this brand new 6-speed automatics"

Check out the technical specifications for the Sorrento and the Sportage on the Kia website and you'll find the ratios for the gears, in the automatic boxes, are identical. A pretty strong indicator it's the same gearbox.
