MERCEDES A 160 (1999) - MERCEDES A CLASS DOOR LOCKS -
THE REAR DOOR LOCK HAS STOPPED WORKING. IT DOES NOTHING WHEN USING THE KEY FOB OR THE KEY IN THE DRIVERS DOOR LOCK. PRESSING THE LOCKING BUTTON ON THE REAR DOOR ALSO HAS NO EFFECT.
BELIEVING THAT SOME SORT OF CONNECTING ROD HAS COME ADRIFT, I REMOVED THE DOOR CARD BUT CANNOT SEE MUCH OF THE LOCK IT BEING HIDDEN INSIDE THE DOOR. I SEE A YELLOW TUBE WHICH IS PRESUMABLY AN AIR SUPPLY, PLUS TWO BLACK TUBES WITH INNER RODS. ONE IS FROIM THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE, THE OTHER BEING THE INTERIOR LOCKING BUTTON. INCIDENTALLY THIS ROD SEEMS TO BE NOT FIXED TO THE LOCK AS I CAN WITHDRAW IT FROM ITS SLEVE. I ASSUME IT PUSHES ONTO A PART OF THE LOCK WITH NEEDING TO BE ATTACHED??????
IDEALLY I WOULD LIKE TO REMOVE THE DOOR LOCK BUT SEE THAT IT IS FIXED TO THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE.
I AM LOOKING FOR ADVICE ON WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE, AND IF A REPAIR NECESSITATES DOOR LOCK AND HANDLE REMOVAL, THEN HOW DO I DO THIS.
Vauxhall has announced that its new city car will be called the Viva, reviving a much-loved badge. We look at ten classic car comebacks and wonder if the fans got what they wanted, or if they’d have been better off leaving the badge in the bottom drawer.
