Digital Camera Problem - Dude - {P}

I have a Nikon D50 digital SLR which has been left unused for approx 6 months, and there now appears that there is a problem with the shutter release button not being activated when pressed.

This would appear to be the result of bad/dirty contacts on the shutter release and I was wondering if there is a cleaning agent I could spray on the button to overcome this problem.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

You could try Servisol Switch Cleaner or Maplin do their own brand. The Servisol is available from a lot of places online or you could try your local music shop.

However a lot depends on the design of the switch, the contacts could be covered with a soft rubber/plastic membrane which will prevent the spray from getting where it's needed. You may have to send it away to a specialist repairer.

The standard camera service and repair price(i.e. the one charged, regardless of the problem) seems to be half the camera's cost. Having been bitten once, I gave the camera to Oxfam (with a note of warning) and bought a new one.
