Hi

Got a Vauxhall Vectra SXi (petrol 1.8) -

Burning oil but theres no leaks and engine seems clean. Poss going to use Piston Seal but dont know what kinda Pistons it has (Flat or Concave) I know if its Concave it cant use it!

If i cant any other advice??????

Your problem is very likely to be valve stem oil seals rather than pistons.

Take out a spark plug and turn engine by hand to tdc shine torch down and see.

Bet it the stem seals which you can do without removing the head.

Thanks 4 the advice. Been told that if it was the stem seals there would be lots of smoke out of the exhaust when i 1st started it up, but theres none. So any advance on weather they are flat or concave pistons? Thanks

The catalist will eat most of the smoke before you see it not like the old days of motoring.

Valve stem seals go hard and allow oil to pass in the cylinder.

Whats the age mileage etc?

And if you won't take my advice above buy a haynes manual it will show you a pic of the piston.

The Car is 2001 and done around 85,000 although im beginning to think i've been 'had' when i bought the car over a year ago!!
