I've finally decided to sort out my intermittent power steering troubles. The only problem is that my (excellent) garage can really only fix the problem by replacing components one at a time till the problem's solved.
In order to avoid the hassle, time and cost involved, does anyone know of a good, trustworthy, power steering specialist in the South of England? I can't see one in the directory, but I might just be being blind.
I'm in Southampton but I'll travel for the right place.

What's the problem, us back-roomers might be able to help!
I had an intermittent problem years ago where the steering would suddenly stiffen while turning, so you'd apply a bit more effort....then it would suddenly free & you'd turn more sharply than you intended! I paid for a new rack before the problem was diagnosed - turned out to be a broken needle-roller in the universal joint in the steering column, & one of the needles jammed occasionally. Dunno if this will help...

That's pretty much the problem - the only issue here is that my garage (very good people) say that it could be one of several things. Because they aren't power steering specialists, their only way of solving things is to replace until they solve the problem. In order to prevent the expense and time involved, I need a specialist who might be able to disgnose before replacing everything.

Wow, amazing how many problems I just lived with. Never resolved, managed another 100,000 miles before selling it. Just got used to heavier steering< I guess.
