VW GOLF GTi Mk3 1996 (november) - VW GOLF DIES AT 88/90 DEGREES ON OIL TEMP - wananeechee

Car runs fine untill it reaches oil temp of 88 - 90 degrees according to dash display.

The car then dies.

Have only had the car for a few days and previous owner say they had no such problem, but then they probably just wanna keep my cash having told me "bought as seen"

Can't even get to the bottom of the road so taking it to garage is not an option (short of having it recovered there...)

Mobile diagnostics took my £20 to tell me the computer doesn't recognise my vehicle...

HELP!

Very strange, the only thing I can suggest is that it has an excess oil temperature cut out which is malfunctioning - but I don't even know if such a thing exists. See if you can find a VW dedicated forum.
