99 1.4 Bad Engine Noise - mrhongkongdave
Hi, need some help with my Vreg 60,000mi 1.4s Lupo.

When idling or revving/driving under 2000 revs the petrol engine sounds like transit van!!!!! As soon as you rev or drive above 2000 engine noise/heavy rattle smooths out???

It doesn't go away with pushing the clutch. All the fluids are at the correct level.

Have only just bought it so don't know how it's materialised? Car was warm when I bought it and just sounded like bad tappets so thought this would be the case, however when I drove it home 100 miles the sound was a lot worse and now cold sounds like an old diesel. Sold as seen cheap, get what you pay for I suppose!!! :-(

It is due major service and belt change could this be it? Does anyone know if this is common or what common probelms are like belt tensioners, crank etc.

Any help would be appreciated will book the car in at local vw garage but could do with a heads up on probs and prices for belt changes full service etc.
