Jimmy Carr fined and charged £1860 court costs
Comic Jimmy Carr has been convicted of speeding for driving at 10mph over the limit through a village in Suffolk. Mr Carr, 37, drove his Bentley GT in Boxford at 50mph on 30 April 2008, an earlier hearing was told.
Mr Carr, of north London, who did not attend the hearing at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates' Court, was caught by police using a speed gun. Mr Carr was awarded three points on his licence, fined £300 and ordered to pay £1,860 prosecution costs.

Surely Jimmy Carr has over paid or our cabinet minister was let off lightly!

Due to Jimmy Carr's specialist (loophole) lawyer fighting technicalities, today's verdict marked an end in a case which has involved 15 separate hearings.
That's £124 per hearing - not so far out!
He also has to pay £1344 for expert witness costs and £15 victim surcharge

Wasn't he the one to make comments about amputee soldiers ?

>>Wasn't he the one to make comments about amputee soldiers ?<<
Styled by the press as 'The King Of Offensive Comedy', I believe.
So, that's about £3,200, in total, to the court, and goodness knows *how* much to Mr Fixit - hopefully he'll see the funny side of paying up.
I certainly do ;)

Court costs are actually quite low, considering the number of people involved - surel;y they must run at a loss! Not a business to invest in!

Once again we have unpleasant scenario of someone with a bit of coin wriggling on the hook.
It is beyond me how a minor speeding matter can be allowed to take 20 months and 15 hearings to sort - there should be a guillotine as in parliament.
Trouble is the longer a case takes, the more there is in it for the lawyers - whoever is paying them - and the system is run by lawyers.

I wonder if during that 20 months, he had some points which expired off his licence thus preventing a ban?

Point count on the day of the original offence not when the court deem them appropriate. Regards Peter
