antifreeze change - Roger K.
I've just completed my usual 2 yearly AF change.

The book says the capacity of the system is 4.5l
I have put in a 50% mixture of 2litre and the system is full.
Everything seems fine and there is no overheating.

Any ideas?
antifreeze change - Dynamic Dave
Did you drain the entire system?
Did you make sure the heater was turned fully up, set on hot?
OK, the heater won't hold 2½ litres.
I suspect you might have had an air lock.
Did you remove the bottom most hose and the top most hose?

Car make and model?

The car is a Rover Metro (K-series engine)

The bottom hose was removed. Heater full on.

I don't think there is a separate drain for the block.

I used to surprise myself every couple of years with something like this. I kept forgetting that there will be a lot of water trapped in the system, especially in the cylinder block unless the drain plug is taken out.

I cheat a bit by putting in, say, a litre of antifreeze followed by half a litre of water, then the rest of the antifreeze, finally bringing up the level with water as required. That way, my usual misjudgement as to the available volume doesn't matter too much. I work on the assumption that a few minutes of engine running will mix it all up.
